Process of Communication

Communication is two-way process in which people share their ideas, information and feelings. The process involves not only th spoken and written word but also body language, personal mannerisms and style, the environment- anything that adds to the message. The communication process is made up of five main components- the Sender(Source), the Channel, the Receiver and the Feedback. All these components are closely interlinked and they play an equally important role in the process of communication.

Here, important thing is that in every communication situation there are two parties-a sender(source) and receiver. who interact within a common frame of reference. Frame of reference is a combination of ideas, beliefs, opinions, attitudes, values, knowledge, culture, past experience and many other elements. Communication frame for the purpose. There can be no effective communication without common content, intention and interest of both the parties.
The process of communication begins when sender has a message to give to receiver. the source for the intended message is the mental image of sender which he wants to share with receiver. The sender intends consciously or unconsciously to accomplish something by communicating. For this, he needs to choose appropriate channel/medium through which his message is transmitted. The "medium" and "channel" are often used interchangeably. It is important to remember that channel is the route or method of communication. The channel or medium can be verbal or non-verbal.
Next component is Message. the message can be thought, idea, opinion, instruction, request, order, feeling, emotion, suggestion. the message has to be properly composed so that the receiver understand it easily.
The next component is the Receiver which is end of sending message. to make process successful, the receiver should be actively involved in it. important part of receiver to reply to sender
The final component in the process of communication is the Feedback. it is response to sender for his message from receiver. feedback is essential part of communication, it helps to sender for knowing weather the receiver received message or not.
